Thanks for the review Jay. I’ve been looking for a compact camera with
quality autofocus video as our toddler is too quick for my DSLRs. Focal
range is excellent too – I’m sold!

  2. S787iFly says:

Thanks Jay for the video. I’ve just got my RX10 and so far so good. It’s a
logical step up from my RX100, and my NEX 5R might be gathering dust now I
    have the RX10.
    What I like:
    – Body feels very solid
    – Nice grip
    – Excellent viewfinder
    – 3 stage focus peaking
    – Super smooth power zoom, although a litlle slow, but that may end up
being good once I do a few videos to test it.
    – the 2.8 aperture gives some nice shots
    – finally microphone and headphone sockets to help with the video process.

The only problem I find “So Far” is that everyone is talking about the
awesome video but seems to be afraid to post images. What do the images
actually look like?! Are there any post of people portraits with this
    $1300 camera?

    great video thank you

  5. IAMCHECHECHE says:

Ohh, come on! I’m almost decide to buy Nex-5T (maybe +SEL35F18) and you
    showed me this! :-)

  6. Frank Lindner says:

If I wasn’t already in love with my Nex6 this looks like a really fun
camera to have and shoot with. I appreciate that you mentioned this side of
using a camera as most of the camera reviews nowadays seem to focus to much
on image quality forgetting that having to bulk a heavy DSLR plus all the
lenses actually reduces the fun you can have with photography.

  7. Chris Moy says:

Thanks Jay for your reply. The comments you make are true and valid. I
think what makes the RX10 stand out from the crowd it the way it processes
the video signal. It manages to sub sample instead of line skipping. This
means much less moire and aliasing. This feature alone makes it’s video
capabilities very interesting to videographers. The NEX cameras can produce
outstanding video but the moire and aliasing would often spoil the party.
It will be interesting to see if future NEX cameras will be able to use
similar processing as the RX10. Another great feature of the RX10 is it’s
ability to output a pure video signal via HDMI. Meaning you can record
externally at a higher bitrate using a different codec if you find AVCHD
compression limiting. As you also demonstrated the autofocus on the RX10
also looks very good even though it doesn’t use phase detection. There are
some test videos on YouTube and Vimeo which highlight this welcomed
improvement. I look forward to seeing more results from yourself with this
great camera. Maybe you can test out any overheating issues by trying to
record 29 mins continuously? My NEX 5N sadly overheats at around 20-25 mins
which can be very annoying. Anyhow thanks again Jay :)-

  8. Richard Palo says:

Jay how does this camera track movement? Could this record the action from
    youth sports games?

  9. Giorgio Croce says:

What about the Sony camera app? Can I run my (for example) time lapse app
    in this rx10?

  10. Attila Kovács says:

Same like me, the rx100mk2 was not enough for change my rx100, but the rx10
    is a logical step.

  11. inzpectr says:

    it’s 2 POINT 8

  12. FSFoodGroup says:

Thank you for posting this great video on the RX10. I have been looking at
it for Food shots and would like to see some samples if you have any. Also
any thoughts on the Wi-Fi functions built into this camera? – Thank you!

  13. paul noble says:

Cool review Jay and nice camera, might have to upgrade from my rx100!

  14. Marcos Morais says:

    how’s the autofocus on it?

  15. Edgar Harris says:

Great overview…!!! Do you know if there is a remote control for the
    RX10…?

  16. Jim Burke says:

Hi Jay, I really enjoyed your video and is a compelling for me to want this
camera. I currently have RX100m2 and have a love-hate relationship with it
asII find most of my pictures to be mostly soft/muddy unless lighting is
perfect and handling the little camera gives me grief as well . would you
say that the image quality because of this lens on the RX 10 is far and
away much better than the rx100m2 or are they likely creating the quality
of imagery simply in different form factors?

  17. Michel Jodoin says:

    Hi Jay,

I’ve just listened to some of your videos and I reaaly appreciated them. I
already own a A7r and I’m using it mostly with prime lenses. I don’t have
any lens gigger than 55mm. I was thinking to buy the RX10 for family
reunions and vacations for its use of ease and to Have access for that
zoom. If money is not to be considered, do you think it is a good idea ?
    Thanks Michel

  18. Chris Moy says:

Nice video rundown of features. Balanced and unbiased? Err no.
Many reviews have pointed out that the very slow zoom is a major issue for
run and gun video or maybe event videography when you need to get the shot
quickly. Also the EVF has one million less dots than what you will find on
the NEX 6 and 7. I believe 1.5m compared to around 2.5m. Also Sony has
admitted that when using the active video stabiliser mode resolution does
suffer slightly causing aliasing in certain conditions. If this is a
concern it might be better to switch off especially if using a tripod etc.

  19. Giorgio Croce says:

Great job AlphaLab, i like your review and the the rx10 too! i have nex5r
right now and im interested in this bridge. i noticed at 7:01 of video, the
zoom speed is faster than 8:06 zoom speed. Am i in right? have the rx10 two
different speed zoom between photo and video mode?

  20. juanmavallone says:

Jay, only NTSC, no PAL ?
and Only 24 fps and 60 fps, no 30 fps in FULL HD ??

  21. Lee L says:

Is the slow zoom a deal breaker?
