How do I stop a photographer from using photos of me to market their photography business?

Question by Leigh: How do I stop a photographer from using photos of me to market their photography business?
A family acquaintance/photographer has ask me several times if he could take photos of me to use on his website to promote his business. I have always declined. Unfortunately he will be at my wedding. I don’t want him snapping photos and using them to promote his business. Is there a way I can stop him from taking photos. If not, how can I stop him from using them on his website?

Unless he gives you a disclaimer and you sign it OR if you are in a public place, he can’t use them

Just tell him that you do not want the photo used for advertising. He won’t use them and he would have to get written permission anyway. So why not? Maybe if you agree you can get the photos for free or maybe even get paid. Just curious…

maybe you shouldn’t invite him or tell your spouse or maybe the police

Unless you signed a release, he cannot use images of you for self-promotion nor to promote his business.

If he persists, you will have to get an injunction from the courts.
