What camera settings should I use to photograph a light trail from an night time rocket launch 6 miles away?

Question by Runs-With-Scissors: What camera settings should I use to photograph a light trail from an night time rocket launch 6 miles away?
I have a DSLR with a 8-16mm wide angle zoom. I was hoping to get suggestions for appropriate camera settings to photograph the light trail of a Proton Rocket launched at night. The distance from the launch pad is about 5-6 miles. Thanks!

That’s a long way off. Well if it were me I’d try your widest aperture, at least 30-second shutter if not bulb and ISO at 200. You’ll need to be on a tripod and if you have any warning you’ll need to use your 10-second timer to avoid blur.
