Question by : Photography Lens Aperture problem. Please help.?
Just got my first film camera (original 1960’s canon canonet), but im having issues with setting the lens aperture ring to AUTO. The camera just wont let me take a photo. Any other aperture works fine. Is there a problem with the camera, or am i just forgetting to do something? Thanks for your help

The auto aperture setting puts the camera into shutter priority mode.
The canonet will only let you take a picture in shutter priority if it thinks that the exposure will be OK.
Looking through the viewfinder you should be able to see the aperture scale with a red indicator. you need to adjust the shutter speed so that the needle is in the central black area.
Is the selenium cell for the built in exposure meter OK?
