Maternity and New Born Photography

Every child born has a gift to bring to this earth and every parent has the highest of hopes that their child will grow into a healthy happy and prosperous adult. Every pregnancy is different, some are good and others are tough but no matter what type of pregnancy you have or personality your children will grow into it is very important to every family member to capture those first fleeting moments of your child’s life and the nine months before!

In North America there is a particular style of photography the people seem to associate with pregnancy, that is black and white exposure with the mother fading into the background. This sort of imagery emphasizes the mothers belly and gives the photo a touch of mystery. Lots of people love to have the picture done of their hands in the shape of a heart around the belly button, this is also a popular image to have done with the fathers hands wrapped around the mothers.

Of course during labor the last thing most parents are thinking about are infant photos but I can tell you from experience that it does not take long for the shutter bug urge kicks into high gear. Those first few weeks after you baby is born you will not want to but her down, she is so soft, small and helpless and all you can do is look at her and how perfect she is. This is one of the most important times for parents to have photos done of their new born.

New born photos are often done high key (bright white) to emphasize the baby’s pure state. It is common for the child and the parents to have little to no cloths on in the photos as a symbol of the closeness during this time in a young families life. When choosing a location to do the photographs it is essential that the temperature is warm enough so the infant does not catch a chill. It is very common for photographers to go into peoples homes to do an infant photo shoot where the parents can be completely comfortable (especially for a mother recovering from the trauma of labor) and have everything they need to feed and change baby.

It is well worth the time and money to have a photographer come into your home during your pregnancy and then again soon after the baby is born to have custom photos taken. Some photographers will even have specialized packages priced specially for parent who want to have both done. These packages are discounted from what it would normally cost to have two separate photo shoots done, it is also nice to have the same photographer for both shoots so that the photos are constant.
