How much should I charge per hour to photograph an event?

Question by sparkle9152: How much should I charge per hour to photograph an event?
I received a request on my website to photograph a charity basketball event. They would need my services for three full days and want the images on DVDs, one DVD per day. I was thinking $ 25/hour since it is a charity event but I am not sure. Thoughts?

They want those files (JPG format I assume) in full resolution so they can print all they want? (This means you’re not going to make any money off of prints.)

Say, eight hours makes $ 200 a day. Doesn’t sound bad to many but when you think about it, it’s a looooong day and you’re be spending quite a bit of time in front of computers, too.

$ 100 an hour if your work is exceptionally good. So it comes down to this–it’s up to you how you price it. Are you good with sport photos? If you’re not experienced, then you may have to reconsider. If you were (assuming that they look at your website already and they liked what they see), don’t price yourself so low that your work is worth so little. Next time they think of you, they’ll think “cheap” instead.
