How do i get permission to photograph a state owned abandoned building?

Question by : How do i get permission to photograph a state owned abandoned building?
The Norwich State Hospital is an abandoned hospital in the state of CT. It covers a ton of property and is claimed to be haunted. I find it extremely fascinating and as a photographer would love the opportunity to photograph the insides of some of the buildings.
I do not want to trespass or do this illegally in anyway,
does anyone have any idea who i would have to get in touch with in order to discuss this?

Almost without exception you will not legally be allowed into the building because of liability issues. In some cases you can get in if you present yourself as a freelance photographer documenting something. A lot is going to depend on who currently owns the property. If it is owned by a commercial real estate broker you may have a chance. If it is owned by the state or other government body you will probably be out of luck. If you decide to go without permission do as much reading as you can on “Urban Exploring”. You may even be able to find groups in your area that have outings to these places. Always go with someone else, do not bring a weapon (if you’re caught trespassing this will cause you BIG problems), let people know where you’re going and when you plan to be back, bring a flash light, first aid kit, cell phone. There are some excellent photo opportunities in some of these buildings but they’re not playgrounds. Be careful even if you get permission.
