Calendars by Printique – A Sale & Photo Gift Idea!

I’ve always called my life as a photographer as just turning the pages of the adventure book. Travel educates the mind and stirs the senses in all ways. The simple act of being in someplace different can be astonishing and provocative. An uncertain adventure to be had! Keep your wits about you! As Frodo said, quoting Bilbo, “Going out your front door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no telling where you might be swept off to.”

A life on the road also provides….memories. And luckily, for photographers, they are illustrated memories. So, put them up on the wall! Have had an amazing year of assignment travel and workshop teaching this year, from the North in the Lofoten Islands of Norway, to the richly historic delights of Romania, to the plains of Africa and the Cloud Forest of Costa Rica! Throw in Mexico, Ireland, Italy, the UK and Estonia, well, the cameras (and me) logged some serious road time.

And now they are on the wall, a calendar for next year, which daily will remind me of this year. It’s the perfect gift to oneself, or others. A keepsake. As the years roll by, and you make a calendar every year, what a beautiful, mindful reminder of one’s wanderings.

Once again, we worked with Printique, which provides a host of options, high quality, fast delivery, and ease of use. The hardest part really was not only deciding on the photos but the style in which the photos are presented. We went with “Fill the Page” since I like full bleeds, and designed the type, size and position. Below examples are from an 8×8″ centerfold calendar printed on Luster Paper, which has a nice gloss for contrast, but isn’t over the top reflective and shiny.

Just in time for a gift idea for yourself (as mentioned, why not) or the photog in the family! Printique is offering this code: HOLIDAYSNAP25 to save 25% sitewide which ends on Monday November 27, 2023. Use this link and the special Cyber Monday code.

Since the trim area is important, had to be careful about that and cutting off type. Wanted to make the font large enough to be legible. You can choose to include type or not, but we decided to include it since when sharing something like these the question always comes up: Where was that taken? Which then leads to potentially interesting accounts of how close I was to the hippo, and what lens was used.

Printique gives you options. But it doesn’t leave you in the woods to figure it out. There are tutorial videos, helpful hints and examples, all backed-up by knowledgeable people. The calendar shown here was turned around in less than a week, and the holidays are almost upon us. Hint, hint. Volume of orders will ramp up soon!

Happy to have this on the wall. The pictures are my pictorial notes, and fun to look at for sure. But they are also a time machine. I look at the photo of the cheetahs, for instance and I can remember the day, the expertise of the guide, who preached patience as we waited for the third cheetah to climb the mound. I remember the sting of the winter wind out in the fjords, desperately trying to frame a sea eagle from an unstable rib boat, hoping to lock onto it as it gathered speed, hurtling down from the clouds.

Memories on the wall.
