Anybody have any tips for self-portrait work?

Question by HLEK87: Anybody have any tips for self-portrait work?
I’m reasonably new to photography and I’m thinking about doing some self-portrait work. I’m working with an entry-level D SLR and have a tripod on the way but have no access to studio lighting. I hope I’m not being cheeky by asking but, if you were doing a self-portrait with this kit, what would you do?

Thank you!!

You can work outdoors, or anywhere with good lighting. You can use just about any lighting, just make sure you adjust your white balance. You can even reflect light to fill in any shadows that might be in the way. Try to keep the use of on camera flash to a minimum.

Until you get your tripod, set up your camera on a stable table top, or someplace, to use the timer function on your camera.

Dont get too close to camera. Set up your camera, and place a mirror behind it, to allow to check your pose. Dont zoom too tight, you can make adjustments to the photo with a crop tool.
