Ends Tomorrow – B&H Deal Zone Sales

Normally, I inform you about good deals and new sales in my regular Photography News article. This time, however, I am making an exception because last Sunday was too early and next Sunday will be too late! Today I received a message from our affiliates at B&H Photo about a short but major sale. I’ve scanned the items in the Photography section and picked out what I personally found interesting (see below). More discounts await you in the Drones, Computers, and Lighting sections. This sale also includes 1600 items that were previously on B&H’s 24-hour “deal zone” sale, re-published at the sale price. It ends on January 16 at 11:59 PM EDT.

Maroon Bells in 4K and 8K

As I was going through the pains of reducing my photo storage, it was a fun experience to go back to my early work and see if there was anything worth keeping. While deleting a large collection of panoramic images, I found a couple that I ended up saving. Interestingly, I realized that at the time I was taking these photos, Lightroom had no panorama capabilities to create a single DNG image out of RAW shots (I used PTGui and Photoshop at the time). So I selected a few vertical panoramic shots captured at different shutter speeds (obviously, I had no idea how to capture panoramas at the time) and let Lightroom do its magic.

Many years of shooting resulted in accumulation of almost 400 thousand images and videos in original formats, and I got tired of trying to keep my data backed up and synced between different storage solutions. I glanced at some of the photos in my Lightroom catalogs and realized that between personal and commercial work I have done over the years, most of the images I have been keeping are likely never going to be touched again. So what is the point of keeping them in the first place? It was time for a massive purge…

Photography News: OM System Rumors, Canon Trade-in Sale

This Friday, I had the chance to test the new Nikon Z50 II in my favorite test lab – the Prague Zoo. What I liked (and didn’t like) about this camera will be detailed in my upcoming Field Review. For now, though, here’s a little teaser shot taken at an absurdly high ISO of 28,800. And aside from the usual Photo Theme Challenge at the end of our News, I have a different kind of challenge for you. Can you identify the species of pigeon – with structurally colored feathers – in the following photo?

Five Easy Things to Avoid in Bird Photography

Bird photography seems simple. You see a bird, you take its photo. But birds don’t just move – they can be in different environments and can have endless varieties of light shone upon them. All of a sudden, bird photography starts to get more complex.
