Understanding Gimbals: An Essential Videography Tool

If you’ve tried shooting video with your phone or DSLR, you’ve probably run into the problem of shaky footage. While recent cameras have made significant advancements with in-camera image stabilization, these systems can only correct low-level movements like shake from your hands. A gimbal, on the other hand, can stabilize your camera even through dramatic pans and big movements, such as walking down a path.

This Week in Photography: L-Mount News, Hasselblad Rumors

Before you read the news from the photography world, let me start with an important message. In temperate regions around the world, the breeding season for many species is at its peak. If you find a seemingly small, vulnerable and abandoned chick in the wild, tame your emotions and under no circumstances “save” such a chick. In 99.9% of cases it does not need your help. This was the case with three blackbird chicks I came across in the forest undergrowth a few days ago.

Fujifilm’s Plan and What It Means for Their Future

A few weeks ago, Fujifilm held its first (of two) X-Summits of 2022. Livestreamed from Omiya Japan, this event was long awaited by Fujifilm users for a number of reasons, not the least of which was the hope of getting new details about Fuji’s upcoming stacked-sensor camera. Photographing an Eclipse: My Impressions of the Nikon 500mm PF

I shoot the vast majority of my work at less than 100mm; my favorite subjects like landscapes, real estate, and aerial scenes all skew towards wide and mid focal lengths. For the recent lunar eclipse, however, I knew I needed a lot of reach. Fortunately, the cosmos aligned (literally in this case) and I had a chance to borrow Nikon’s 500mm PF lens and test it during the eclipse.
