without a tri-pod?

i have an old canon rebel and after years of letting it collect dust, i want to use it again. any tips? and by night, i mean without flash preferably.

example: i tried going to the local airport to take pictures of the runway and i was unable to get anything of worth.

You have to steady the camera even if you do not have a tripod

The ground, a wall, fence, something. Bracing the camera so it does NOT move during the exposure is important. As you can see, a tripod makes things much easier in the long run. If you don’t have $ 100 to buy a good one, look in thrift stores for one. Usually under $ 5
