Aside from post-production tips, are there any settings on my camera that will help achieve more striking black and whites?

Post production is actually a huge part of B&W digital photos. Don’t shoot B&W jpegs. Don’t simply convert them to B&W. Images just converted to B&W often are left with gray whites and are often just plain mediocre looking. Mess around with the levels of each color (R,Y,O,C,B,P,V, etc etc). LIghtroom allows you do to this very easily.
