Fashion photography as a career?

Since I was a little kid, I’ve always wanted to become a fashion photographer. I grew up in a family who really loves photography. As a kid, I spent my time studying my dad’s Nikon SLR and take pictures. Now that I’m 16 and going to college, my mom doesn’t want me to get photography as my career but I cant picture my self doing something other than photography but Its ok with her if I will study fashion photography after having a job. I love photography, as a teen, I spent my time going to the library, researching about photography, I take pictures and play with lights and everything that is connected with photography.

I am planning to go to Academy of Art University after taking physical therapy in a university in Cali. My dream is to become a fashion photographer ever since. What are your suggestions or what do you think about my idea of being a fashion photographer?
