Dear CNET, please add the name of your shows to the name of the video!!!!
My debut for +CNET’s DIY show, The Fix! My segment shows you how to make a
ring light out of your big monitor or TV, but there’s also great stuff on a
DIY dolly and an egg timer for a smooth 360 degree timelapse.
For what twine? You have a remote controlled car! Or you can buy all
wheels, pipes etc. And build this something without buying RC toy… And
why you are making videos non-horizontally? Maybe you want to watch all
YouTube videos turn 90 degree? Greetings from europe! No… That’s isn’t a
country….
Do not use an IPS display as a ring light. High contrast = extremely fast
burn in on IPS panels. the brightness is also too low (which is why they
recommended the high ISO. At full resolution, for all but the high end full
frame cameras, the 1600-3200 ISO will significantly reduce the sensors
dynamic range and color depth, which will negatively impact skin tones,
this means that you will not only get the shadowless look, but you will
also lose a good amount of definition on the face, as you will lose the
subtle changes in tones which help with the sense of depth.
A DIY ring light is very easy to make, especially if you you not came about
something being a little ugly.
For flash, you can build a parabolic reflector, or find a pot or boll that
is the proper shape. You can also built ones using multiple high CRI LED
modules, and wiring them all in parallel and arranging them in a circle,
and then finding some plastic or paper too diffuse the light. (I recommend
finding ones that can run directly from 12V as you can then directly
connect a old power adapter to them thus no need for the building of a DC
to DC converter. While their solution is the cheapest, it is also risking
the TV which will likely cost many times more than spending $10-20 on
building a good ring light that will allow you to keep the ISO on the
lowest setting.
PS, if you are doing a one light setup in order to create deep shadows on
the face, do some bracketed shots with your DSLR first (not to make HDR)
but to figure out the highlight recovery limit of your camera. Recovering
highlights does not really add noticeable noise, but boosting the shadows
will add noise, and thus if you can overexpose close to the highlight
recovery limit of the camera, you can get cleaner shadows while still
getting the highlight detail.
I thought he’ll use the remote control to control the truck instead of
using a pulley,
I hope Youtube changes the frame rate back to what it was
ISO 3200…hmm doesn’t sound very good…
Ring light is a flash… still so dark you need ISO 3200
Used to create a shadowless fill flash… puts camera in front of it
The first two were fine, but really, projecting a white circle on a TV is a
ring flash alternative?
Great tips guys. I love the DIY Dolly, it’s Awesome.
144p…shit Im here wayyy too early
Donald’s diy projects always seem half assed. Why did he tear the antenna
out? You could’ve used the remote control function! Can tell he’s never
worked with his hands.
D5100, my favorite
vertical video syndrome. So retarded.
I gotta try some time lapse video!
All of these are terrible. anyone interested in photography should not
listen to this.
Hi Lexy,
Nice tip there with the ring light. Love the accent which I am familiar
with, Aussie?
Why is Sharon’s wedding ring on her right hand? Curious.
This is good!
