One of the biggest privileges I have of running Photography Life, is meeting wonderful people all over the world. Some of them I get to meet through photo walks, some through workshops and others I meet online, with the hope of meeting them face-to-face one day. Except for my friend John Bosley (who I met locally at a photo event), I met the rest of our team online – through this very website. Most of them started out as readers, but as we got to know each other via comments, emails and other phone conversations, they eventually joined the team of talented writers because they had the urge to do something amazing, which is to share their knowledge with the rest of the world. As of today, we have over 1600 articles, close to 300 reviews and we will soon reach 100,000 reader comments (yes, we are planning to celebrate the 100K commenter!). I have recently posted my 1000th article and Tom Stirr will soon be publishing his 100th article. And today, we have another gifted individual who will be joining our team – Vaibhav Tripathi. Or should we call him Dr Tripathi? After-all, he did get his PhD from Stanford University!
Please give a warm welcome to our newest team member Vaibhav Tripathi! Below is some information and images Dr Tripathi sent me to share with our readers!
My photographs are a window to my experiences in Nature and my own way of connecting to the beautiful outdoors. In my photos, I strive to capture ‘Light’ and having found beautiful lighting, my next step is to search for anything earthbound (landscapes, figures) to match or complement it, and in the process create a moving narrative with visual harmony.
This inspiration of looking for light resulted in me delving deeper in outdoor atmospheric phenomenon. Learning about rainbows, fogbows, halos, glories, earth shadow, sun pillars, crepuscular rays etc. meant that I looked for signs and things in Nature I used to overlook. The more I looked, the more I found and then looked for more. John Muir has rightly said “In every walk with Nature one receives far more than he seeks”.
After shooting exclusively digital for almost 5 years, I discovered the joy of photographing using 35mm film and now I shoot both the mediums interchangeably. Shooting film has helped me grow as a photographer and be a part of the entire creative process in a more intimate fashion. The limitations of the 35mm film imposes many boundaries and I find myself being more creative in order to work with (around) those restrictions. To me, it is always film ‘and’ digital as opposed to film ‘vs.’ digital and I feel that we are living through a wonderful time when there are two such capable mediums at our disposal (more if we include medium/large format). I hope this amazing journey of finding light continues unabated and last but not the least, happy shooting everyone!
