How do I get my flash to catch up with my shutter speed?

Question by John: How do I get my flash to catch up with my shutter speed?
I have a Canon T3 and a Yongnuo 560-II. When I take my pictures with my shutter speed anything above 1/250, ths camera is way too fast for my flash. Once I hit 1/500 of a second have the picture is missing. How would I get my flash duration fast enough for my camera?
