How can I get glue off an old photograph?

Question by Patricia A: How can I get glue off an old photograph?
I found a photograph that I took about 5 years ago with my old 35 mm camera. I do not have the negatives anymore, and unfortunately I tried to be creative and glued a whimsical saying in the upper corner. Now I am left with a glue mark with some of the paper. Is there a save way to remove the paper along with the glue? I don’t want to destroy the photo, it is special to me, and the only copy I have. I have tried to scan it on my computer, but you can still see the marks from the glue. Any suggestions?

Well, you risk destroying it unless you take it to a professional. If you’re not willing to pay a large amount, I’d take something like isopropyl alcohol and rub it off. It might only be bonded to the glossy layer on top, which would make it easy to remove. Make sure you test the alcohol on a sample first—it could damage the photo.
