Question by Jonathan G: How can I start making money off of my photography?
I know about adding my photos in stock photography websites, but I’m thinking more along the lines of print and sail, I need tips, hints and suggestions please.

Here are a couple ideas:
I don’t know about where you are from, but here a lot of local coffee shops will display art/photos (I have sold photographs that way)
Also you might think it sounds sort of lame but you can also find a local flea market and sell them there (Its cheap and it works!!)
You could put them up on e bay, I know several people who sell them that way.
If you would rather go big time invest in a building/shop an open your own gallery!! 🙂

You can open an Etsy shop online and sell prints

or look into selling on stock sites like you mentioned
Also you could get into taking photos for small businesses
they need quality photos for their products to sell them online
Hey There-
Here are my tips/suggestions on selling your photographs.

To sell online you need to market yourself.
1. Link to your site(s) that you are selling on whenever it is possible.
2. Make some business cards – tutorials available online – and put the site you use for selling on the card. Pass these cards out whenever possible.
3. Give the cards you made to friends and family and make sure they pass them out, as well.
Ex Card:
(One of you best pictures as background)
1.Name
2.Number
3.What type of photographer you are – short and to the point. I.E. Nature photographer
4.Your website that you sell on
–You can also put your E-Mail instead of the website or with the website
Also, you can sell images to friends and family. Another thing I’ve seen some artists do to sell their work is to go to a local flee market.
Check out local cafe’s and restaurants. Many are willing to put an image or two up. They may not pay you to hang your picture, but you can put your card in the corner of the frame, and this will also expose your name to people. If they like it enough, they will go to your site. Another thing you can do with local businesses is ask to put your
card(s) on their countertops so that when people are shopping they see your card.
Many of the online sellers take care of the printing/shipping. Some take a % of your profits and others do not. Read the FAQS to find out if they charge to handle the printing/shipping.
If you go the flee market route:
Many online websites have exceptional printing qualities for reasonable prices.
Whcc.com
MPIX.Com
You can do a google search for more…
Printing can be done at a store as well. Sams Club, Costco, Ritz Camera…At home is another option. Be sure that the quality is top notch, though. If you don’t have a great printer and calibrated monitor at home printing is not ideal.
Put the printed pictures in frames or have them mounted. Price them, and take them to the market.
hope that helps,
Dana
