Question by JenEyePher: how to request permission to photograph an event?
Hello There. I would like to write an email to various event coordinators asking permission to photograph their upcoming events. I am an amateur photographer trying to get my foot in the door to photographing events in the future. I am not looking to get paid at this time. Most of the events I am currently interested in are festivals, fairs, cultural events, etc. I am looking for either a sample letter (can be short and to the point) or someone to help me write a letter so it sounds more professional. Thanks in advance for your help.

When I want to video events like concerts and parties, I request a media credential about 4 to 6 weeks before the event. Once your foot is in the door they’ll send them to you with you requesting it. I’m sure it works that way for photography too. However, all the photographers I know never get paid…neither do I. BUT most of the time event planners, concert promoters, ETC need videographers and photographers there so you should have no problem if you’re not in an area that is over saturated with photographers already. Hope this helps.
