ON ADORAMA TV…LIGHTING AN UNDEAD WEDDING!

Zombie wedding! Seth and Marisa get hitched! They go for a walk in the….cemetery! As one does on a wedding day. It debuts over on Adorama TV.

Had a wonderfully fun day in the field with Seth Miranda and Marisa Roper, and of course a great team assembled by producer Lynn DelMastro. Catrina Grieco and her team of talented SFX artists, Shannon Rae Mulligan and Mikayla Bailey transformed these normally quite lovely people into attractively demonic characters. Andrew Tomasino and Jason Mangini teamed up shooting video and recording audio, respectively. Charles Samman and Hannah Mitchell teamed with me at camera. Annie Cahill created a wonderful array of BTS stills and video. And intrepid video editor Dalton Tokarczyk whipped it all together in the edit you will see today over at Adorama TV.

After some grueling assignment duties like the Olympics, this type of day in the field is a breath of fresh air. Work, to be sure, but also nonstop fun, from the congenial crew atmosphere to the otherworldly look of our talent.

Lighting was occasionally simple, such as you seen in the graveyard. But then, it would veer into more complex patterns, designed to create the look and feel of the undead. The below is a combo of a Nikon SB-5000 acting as a main light, firing through an Ezybox Speed-Lite 2 Plus softbox, fitted with a fabric grid. (Sorta really rolls off the tongue, don’t it?)

Accent lights are in the form of A10 Profoto lights. Warm and blue gels all around. The blue cast is enhanced by using incandescent white balance at camera. Got lucky with the presence of the big mirror in our resplendent location, The Fountain Inn.

Last shot of the day was the most complex. (Why is that always true?) Big lights outside on the lawn, lighting up the windows. Small key for the floating bride. Thanks to The Fountain Inn of Ridgefield, Ct. It’s a phenomenally beautiful setting, often used by wedding parties of the, well, more normal type. The rooms and decor are stunning.
